laurie jones, better days

better days is laurie's long-awaited new album! as she states in the official press release: "All my travels and opportunities for solitude have really paid off. The week in London in a tiny room...the winter days on the beach in San Diego...they allowed me to play my electric guitar and experiment with riffs like never before. The time I spent in Halifax and Cape Breton Island also opened up my eyes and ears to a creative and vibrant world I never thought existed north of my watch on the 45th parallel here in Maine."

press
recent reviews and interviews:

  • portland monthly - summerguide 2004 by Jeff Houdlette
"Early on we concentrated on London and Halifax. It goes back to the music that influenced me: I was listening to British rockers and Canadian rock when I was young." 06/04

  • goldmine magazine march, 2004
"jones' edgy, fully fueled approach shows a strong commitment to a basic rock 'n' roll regimen...the missing link between the unbridled angst of, say, Alanis Morrisette and the bitchy dominatrix persona of Pat Benatar, with Joan Jett's snotty, middle-fingered attitude tossed in for good measure." 02/01

  • indie-music.com by brad wilson
"she's got the guitar chops, voice with attitude, and most important, songs that can bring an audience to their feet and into high gear" 2/7/04

  • kennebec journal/what's happening by lucky clark
"jones has got a great voice that can switch from serious to sassy in a heartbeat" 1/16/04

  • bangor daily news by todd r. nelson
"jones has a chiming, spine-tingling timbre when she hits the sweet spot in her vocal register, which she does effortlessly even in live performance." 1/16/04

  • face december 2003 'the haynes files'
"confessional rock with a nod to new wave...cool, cool, cool." 12/03

  • face magazine - april 2003
"Jones' early sources of inspiration can be heard in the jangly guitar chords and quirky beat of songs like 'Good Stuff' and 'Rebound,' and her song 'Joey' is an unabashed tribute to one of her heroes, the late Joey Ramone. But that rock in her hand has settled into an intractable niche, defying anyone to mess with her plan of succeeding at what she has always wanted to do. Play music. Sing. Write songs. And to do all three on her own terms." 04/03

airplay
endless thanks to all the stations who've been playing 'better days' (click a station name to visit their Web site)!
  • KCRW - Los Angeles, California
This California station is best known for playing a song one time, and one time only. We can only hope that they have played each and every track from "Better Days" that one time. Visit the site and leave a note for Nic.....he's the man!

  • KEAO-FM - Maui, Hawaii
"Radio that does not kowtow to corporate America or record companies." That's a direct quote from the KEAO Mission Statement...and they are playing "Better Days." Listen on line, and make friends with our favorite DJ, Scott Mills, heard weekdays from 11am-4pm (EST). Write to him and request "Better Days" at scottmills@manaoradio.com and tell him that "Steve" sent you.

  • KHNS - Haines, Alaska
Alaskan public radio that plays various tracks in between NPR spots.

  • WERU - Blue Hill, Maine
The community radio station that has "Better Days" in "heavy" rotation. Keep it there by calling 1-207-469-6600.

  • WFMU - Jersey City, New Jersey
100% listener-supported radio that has done more for modern music than any other station in America. Visit the Web site, look around and feel free to send Brian Turner or Pat Duncan an email; both guys are very familiar with Laurie and would love to hear your favorite Jones story.

  • WFUV - Bronx, New York
The leader in NYC radio. Jonatha Brook, Nora Jones and Shawn Colvin all owe their success to this gentle giant. There's a request line on the site. You can also email Rita Houston and Vin Scelsa directly; these two have let Laurie into their DJ worlds.

  • WKIT - Bangor, Maine
Stephen King's independently owned and operated commercial radio station where "Coffee Shop" remains in regular rotation. Email your request for "Coffee Shop" or call 1-800-287-1003.

  • WMHB - Lewiston, Maine
WMHB is the station of Colby College, where "Better Days" is climbing the Top 30 chart. From the Web site you can listen and request. We encourage you to do both.

  • WMPG - Portland, Maine
Before anyone paid Laurie any mind, this station was treating her with respect and like a star. The Portland "music scene" is still a bit impenetrable for reasons unknown, but WMPG remains a staunch ally. Call or email anytime and they will play anything you like.

  • WNTI - Hackettstown, NJ
Located in the mountains of western Jersey, this roaring radio station's Web site is fantastic and the variety of music is out of this world. Request something from Better Days by calling 908-852-4545 or by emailing Amanda, the Music Director at wntimd@aol.com. And be sure to check out The Mickster's Dangerous Rock & Roll Show Saturdays from 6-8 pm.

  • WRBC - Waterville, Maine
Bates College's WBRC site also has a live feed where you can listen and request. Again, give them a listen and a call. Both Bates and Colby were featured in the first season of "The Sopranos" and continue to support trendsetting college radio!

  • WRFR - Rockland, Maine
Waiting for your phone call and money, this is a brand new community radio station operating on a low or no budget. Drop them an email as listeners rule the playlist.

  • WUMF - Farmington, Maine
The University of Maine at Farmington radio station does not have a Top 30 or available playlist, however they love to know that folks are listening, so don't be shy. You can email station manager Megan Littlefield and call the Request Line to hear any track off "Better Days."

  • WWBX - Bangor, Maine
B97 is a Clear Channel pop hits station...where two DJs have taken a fancy to "Rebound." Please email Melissa at MelissaonB97@yahoo.com and Bill at BillButler@clearcchannel.com. You can also call the request line at 207-941-9797.
